I was pondering earlier on the ongoing expense of lunching and the economies that seem naturally to arise when you Work from home. When I was employed in the city and journeyed to work every day I acquired the habit of buying some form of lunch or other every day. I found it not easy to form the habit of taking a pre prepared lunch with me, preferring rather to use the office coffee shop, or nip out to the shops for a sandwich each day. What is more, peer pressure sometimes demands a visit to a city centre cafe from time to time and frequently a pre packed lunch would remain uneaten.
As I now work from home things have changed. There is nobody near me to put temptation in my way and my most convenient coffee bar is a good two miles from where I live (and work). There are no sandwich shops nearby so I need to make lunch arrangements from my own kitchen. Because I spend lots of time at a PC screen doing Online jobs I am able to take a snack break anytime and prepare whatever appeals.
Although it was not a significant reason in my decision to work from home I am in reality finding that the savings are not small. I can make a reasonable luxurious sandwich at only a fraction of the price I would pay on the high street. I am also able to avoid the temptation of the sweet course, most sandwich vendors display sweets in the most tempting of ways.
Work from home brings a number of benefits and the economy of lunching is only a small one. But such economies can multiply and coupled with the reduced or eliminated cost of travel and other savings it all adds up to a great economic argument. The work from home movement seems set to progress.
